Evropska solidarnostna enota: MLADI ZA OTROKE

Ob prihodu v Idrijo, smo ji zastavili nekaj vprašanj in z vami delimo njene odgovore:

How would you describe yourself?

I would describe myself as a responsible person who always strives for self-development. It is definitely an integral part of growth and self-improvement. I am not afraid of new challenges and gladly take up on new opportunities to make life brighter and meaningful.

Why did you decide to do an ESC?

I chose to do an ESC because this is a perfect way to expand my horizons and learn something new. I reckon it can definitely be a life-changing experience. Always when you visit a foreign country, especially for a long term, and become a part of it, you start to see things differently. It broadens your mind since it is something different from your home country, people may have different views on life, for example, and you can learn from it. This experience is extremely valuable not only in terms of future career opportunities, but also for self-development which helps you become a better version of yourself every day.

Why did you choose Idrija?

Idrija is a beautiful small town I enjoy very much. It resembles my hometown in Ukraine because it’s quiet and cozy. However, I wanted to do a volunteering project in a place I have never been to, which is something different from Ukraine, to see other cultures. Idrija perfectly falls under these criteria, so I was very glad to receive the invitation to do the project here. It is a nice place to stay in, avoiding all the hustle and bustle of a big noisy city.

What did you do before the ESC?

I have studied at National Aviation University in Kyiv. My major was English philology and translation (including German language). I have graduated from this institution with a Bachelor’s degree. I decided to take a pause and pursue a Master’s degree later on, so I started working for the US-based company CIENCE Technologies as a data researcher (the company specializes in marketing and advertising). After that, I got the invitation to participate in the volunteering project, so here I am.

How do you like to spend your free time?

In my spare time I usually spend time with my family and friends. I enjoy reading books sometimes. Mostly it’s about business, biographies of famous entrepreneurs, psychology, investments. Also, when I have an opportunity, I take some courses on Coursera, for example, on business management and adjacent fields. Watching films and series in English is a perfect way to relax and improve language skills at the same time. In addition, when I get invitations, I participate in volunteering activities for orphans and children with limited abilities in my home town.

Kako najraje preživljaš prosti čas?

Prosti čas običajno preživim z družino in prijatelji. Rada berem knjige. Večinoma gre za posel, biografije znanih podjetnikov, psihologijo, naložbe. Ogled filmov in serij v angleščini je odličen način za sprostitev in hkrati izboljšanje jezikovnih spretnosti. Poleg tega, ko dobim povabila, sodelujem v prostovoljnih dejavnostih za sirote in otroke z omejenimi sposobnostmi v domačem kraju.

What is your first impression of Idrija and Slovenia in general?

I have only positive impressions about Idrija and Slovenia in general. It is definitely a beautiful country where people are very friendly and always ready to help. It seems to be a place where people are happy to live and don’t rush things all the time. This is what I like because, for example, people in Ukraine live like a hamster in a wheel most of the time, and therefore you forget to simply enjoy the joys of life.

What are you looking forward the most from this volunteering opportunity?

I am looking forward to spending time with children and helping them develop some skills through different workshops and activities. I am always ready to help and be useful for someone who really needs it. It is always better to give than to receive because you remember you don’t only live for yourself.
